Robert Baltovich wants the province to pay up for the nine years he lost behind bars and he is asking for compensation over wrongful prosecution.

Baltovich was cleared of the 1990 murder of his girlfriend Elizabeth Bain five months ago.

His lawyers have sent the Attorney General a letter asking if the government is prepared to compensate the 42-year-old.

The Toronto man was convicted of second-degree murder in 1992 and released on bail in 2000.

Bain disappeared from the University of Toronto's east-end campus and her bloodstained car was found nearby three days later in June 1990.

There is no information on how much money Baltovich is asking for.
