TORONTO - Luke Schenn is joining Canada at the IIHF World Hockey Championship for the third time in four years.

The Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman accepted an invitation to the tournament on Tuesday.

Schenn is the fifth Canadian blue-liner to sign on for next month's event in Helsinki, joining Maple Leafs teammate Dion Phaneuf, Jay Bouwmeester, P.K. Subban and Marc Methot.

Eleven forwards and two goaltenders have also committed to the team.

Schenn had 22 points (2-20) in 79 games for the Leafs this season.

Canada opens the world championship on May 4 with a game against Slovakia.
