A man and a woman are in critical condition and three others are seriously hurt after a two-car crash that shut down the eastbound lanes of Highway 403 for hours on Saturday night.

The OPP says just before 10 p.m. a Dodge Neon was driving slowly in the right lane near Eglinton Avenue with its hazard lights on when it was rear ended.

Four people in the other vehicle were not hurt. The OPP says drivers should simply pull over and call for help if they're having car trouble.

Meanwhile, a Toronto man escaped serious injury, but his SUV wasn't so lucky after a rollover on the Highway 401 collectors early this morning.

The crash happened at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday on the eastbound 401 near the Avenue Road overpass. The driver lost control of his vehicle, hit a snow bank on the shoulder and went airborne before rolling.

The accident forced a closure of three lanes because of the mess it left behind. The driver was taken to hospital but he's expected to be fine.

In the east end, a car crashed into a snow bank at Eglinton and Midland Avenues at about 2 a.m. this morning.

Police say the driver hit a snow bank and slammed into two parked cars. He also knocked off his gas tank, spilling gasoline across the intersection and took down hydro wires in the process.

It took several hours to get everything cleaned up. There is no word on the extent of his injuries.

The snow banks along the shoulders also played a role in a crash on southbound Highway 427.

At about 3 a.m. in the morning, an SUV slammed into a bank and rolled near Eringate Drive.

Three women in the car escaped serious injury because they got out and ran.

Police caught up with them a short time later. The driver is facing an impaired driving charge.

Alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash.
