TORONTO - Ontario's police watchdog is looking for witnesses as it investigates an alleged sexual assault involving a Toronto police officer.

The Special Investigations Unit says there was an interaction between a plainclothes police officer and a middle-aged woman in the lobby of an apartment building in the city's north end on April 24, 2012.

The agency is calling on anyone -- especially building occupants -- who may have seen the incident to contact them.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
