TORONTO -- Quarterback Ricky Ray has been taken to hospital as a precaution after he was was carted off the field in the third quarter of the Toronto Argonauts' home opener against the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday.

Ray faked a handoff with 4:05 remaining in the quarter when Stampeders defensive linemen Ja'Gared Davis and Cordarro Law sandwiched him.

He was transported to Toronto Western Hospital.

Toronto trailed 34-1 when Ray was injured, in a disappointing Grey Cup rematch.

Ray had completed 12 of 17 passes for 74 yards.

Play was stopped for more than 20 minutes as trainers and doctors attended to Ray, who had his neck isolated before being put on a stretcher.
