TOKYO - What Canada Did on Wednesday at the 2020 Tokyo summer Olympic games (distances in metres):

ATHLETICS

Women's 400 - Kyra Constantine of Brampton, Ont., placed 15th overall in the quarterfinals at 51.22 seconds, did not advance.

Women's 1,500 - Gabriela DeBues-Stafford, Toronto, qualified for the final after placing third in her semifinal heat with a season-best 3:58.28; her sister, Lucia Stafford, also Toronto, ran a personal-best 4:02.12, but her time was not fast enough to advance.

Women's 3,000 steeplechase - Genevieve Lalonde, Moncton, N.B., finished 11th in nine minutes, 22.40 seconds - a Canadian-record.

Women's heptathlon - Georgia Ellenwood, Langley, B.C., who had a personal-best mark of 1.83 in the high jump, stands 15th overall after the opening four events with 3,690 points.

Men's 200 - Andre De Grasse, Markham, Ont., won the gold medal (19.62, a national record), moving him into a tie with Philip Edwards (track), Marc Gagnon and Francois-Louis Tremblay (short-track speedskating) for most career medals by a male Canadian with five; Aaron Brown, Toronto, finished sixth (20.20).

Men's decathlon - Damian Warner of London, Ont., is ranked first following the opening five events with 4,722 points. He posted the fastest time in the 100 (10.12); set a Olympic decathlon record of 8.24 metres in the long jump; and had season-best results in the shot put (14.80) and 400 (47.48). Pierce LePage, Whitby, Ont., who also posted personal-best results in the shot put (15.31) and 400 (46.92), stands third overall (4,529) heading into the second day.

CANOE/KAYAK (SPRINT)

Women's C1 200 - Katie Vincent, Mississauga, Ont. (46.391) and Laurence Vincent Lapointe, Trois-Rivieres, Que. (45.408) both won their qualifying heats to advance to the semifinals.

Women's K1 500 - Michelle Russell, Fall River, N.S., was third in her quarterfinal (1:51.375) and earned a berth in the semis.

Men's K1 200 - Nicholas Matveev, Toronto, earned a spot in the medal race after finishing second in his quarterfinal (35.181); Mark de Jonge, Halifax, was eliminated after placing third in his quarterfinal (35.462).

Men's K2 1,000 - Vincent Jourdenais, Saint-Basile-le-Grand, Que., and Brian Malfesi, Maple Ridge, B.C., were fourth in their quarterfinal race (3:15.738) and will compete in the B-final.

CYCLING

Women's keirin - Lauriane Genest, Levis, Que. (11.183) and Kelsey Mitchell, Sherwood Park, Alta. (11.391) won their first-round heats and advanced to the quarterfinals.

Men's sprint - Nick Wammes, Bothwell, Ont., lost in the round-of-16 repechage to Mohd Awang of Malaysia; Hugo Barrette, Iles-de-la-Madeleine, Que., finished second in a round-of-32 repechage, did not advance.

Men's team pursuit - Canada (Vincent De Haitre, Cumberland, Ont.; Michael Foley, Milton, Ont.; Derek Gee, Osgoode, Ont.; Jay Lamoureux, Victoria) defeated Germany by 3.69 seconds (3:46.24) to win the fifth-place race.

DIVING

Women's 10-metre platform - Meaghan Benfeito, Laval, Que., was fourth in the preliminary round with 331.85 points and qualified for the final; Celina Toth, London, Ont., was 23rd (261.40), did not advance.

EQUESTRIAN

Jumping - Mario Deslauriers, Bromont, Que., aboard Bardolina 2, incurred 13 penalties and finished 22nd with a time of 88.51.

GOLF

Women - Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ont., and Alena Sharp, Hamilton, both carded three-over-par 74s in the opening round and are eight shots behind the leader.

SPORT CLIMBING

Women's combined - Alannah Yip, North Vancouver, B.C., was sixth-fastest in the speed event (7.99 seconds), 16th in bouldering and 12th in lead to finish 14th overall in qualifying with 1,152, did not advance.

SWIMMING (ARTISTIC)

Women's duet - Claudia Holzner, Calgary, and Jacqueline Simoneau, Saint-Laurent, Que., were fifth in the free routine with 93.00 points and placed fifth overall for the event (184.4798).

SWIMMING (OPEN WATER)

Women's 10-kilometre - Kate Sanderson, Toronto, finished 18th overall in two hours, four minutes and 59.1 seconds.
