Protesters took over Yonge-Dundas Square for 12 hours in their fight against the ongoing crisis in Sri Lanka.

About one hundred Tamil students pleaded for the world's help in a rally that started on Saturday night at 10 p.m. and kept going until 10 a.m this morning. It comes on the heels of a week of protests that have taken over Toronto.

Protestors are denouncing what they call the "genocide" that is happening in Sri Lanka.

According to the Red Cross, about 250,000 people are trapped in a tiny area in the north of the country, boxed in between Tamil Tiger fighters and government soldiers.

The protesters say Canada needs to step in.

In 2006, Ottawa declared the Tigers a terrorist organization. The students say Canadians don't realize not all Tamils belong to the Tigers.
