VAUGHAN, Ont. - Bus drivers at one of three striking unions in York Region refused to vote on a contract offer today.

The nearly 220 drivers who work for Veolia Transportation have been on strike for nearly nine weeks.

They met today to consider a company offer but Local 113 of the Amalgamated Transit Union says they refused to cast ballots, unanimously rejecting the offer by a voice vote.

The union says the offer was a four-year agreement with annual wage increases of three, two, 3.1 and 2.7 per cent.

Drivers belonging to ATU local 1587 are also on strike in York Region against Miller Transit and First Canada.

The union says major issues are the gap in wages and benefits between the York workers and their counterparts elsewhere in the Greater Toronto Area.
