Toronto broke a 35-year-old temperature record Sunday afternoon as the mercury soared to an unseasonably warm 17.3 C at Pearson International Airport.

The temperature, which was recorded at 3 p.m., tops the previous record of 15.3 C for this date, which was set in 1977.

The weather isn't expected to snap back to seasonal norms anytime soon either.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Sunday morning that says a ridge of high pressure over the Southern United States will bring temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above seasonal norms throughout the coming week.

While the temperature will dip slightly to 11 C Monday it will rise again to 16 C on Tuesday and Wednesday before hitting a summer-like high of 21 C Thursday.
