CP24 hosted the first of six mayoral debates leading up to the Toronto municipal election in October on Tuesday evening.

"Your Vote: The Race For Mayor," aired live at 8 p.m. and was a two-hour televised discussion that gave the leading local mayoral candidates an opportunity to debate the issues, present their ideas for the future of the city and give Torontonians a chance to press the candidates for answers.

Six front runners Rob Ford, Giorgio Mammoliti, Joe Pantalone, Rocco Rossi, George Smitherman and Sarah Thomson joined the roundtable with CP24's Stephen LeDrew as the moderator -- to show Toronto why they should be leading this city.

Each candidate spoke candidly about their future plans for the city and hot button issues like expanding public transit, implementing tolls, adding more bike lanes and taxes. But it was last year's garbage strike and the issue of whether city services should be privatized, that heated things up.

The candidates were also asked to talk about the highlights of Mayor David Miller's term. Each person was asked to pick one policy or idea implemented by Miller that he or she would like to continue.

Additional debates will be held on June 8, July 20, August 17, September 21, and October 19, just days before the municipal vote.
