MONTREAL - Toronto tech company socialDeck has come up with a video game that lets users play together on different platforms, even if one person is on a BlackBerry, another is on an iPhone, and another is surfing online on Facebook.

Shake & Spell has just been launched for Research In Motion's BlackBerry smartphone and has been available for iPhone and Facebook users since last fall.

SocialDeck co-founder and CEO Anish Acharya says the idea is to let people interact with friends across multiple devices and social networks.

The game is free and socialDeck says it has more than 500,000 iPhone and Facebook users so far.

Gaming industry experts say cross-platform games like Shake & Spell are new and it's a trend that's expected to appeal to consumers, because it allows them to use different devices to play against each other.
