TORONTO - Maverick Progressive Conservative Bill Murdoch has been formally kicked out of the party's caucus for criticizing leader John Tory.

Acting Opposition Leader Bob Runciman sent Murdoch a letter today confirming his immediate removal from the Conservative caucus.

Murdoch had said it was time for Tory to consider taking another job, and refused to back down after being suspended from the caucus last week.

Runciman's letter notes that Murdoch had continued to say he had no confidence in Tory's leadership and he would not reconsider his position and back down from the comments.

Murdoch has said he would have no problem sitting as an independent when the legislature resumes sitting next week.

Earlier this week, Murdoch was greeted with cheers and hugs at the International Plowing Match in southwestern Ontario, while Tory's float heard cries of `leave Bill alone' and `back off Murdoch.'
