A streetcar derailment at College Street and Spadina Avenue tied up traffic for several hours Friday.

The streetcar derailed as it was travelling east on College Street and attempting to turn north onto Spadina Avenue around 12 p.m.

Crews used heavy equipment to lift the streetcar and put it back on the tracks. The streetcar was re-railed at about 1:30 p.m., but the closure was expected to last another 30 to 40 minutes.

TTC route diversions

As a result, the 510 Spadina and 506 Carlton streetcars diverted around the scene.

The 510 Spadina streetcars diverted via Dundas to Bathurst Station, while the 506 Carlton streetcars are diverted via Ossington, Dundas and McCaul.

Meanwhile, the cause of the derailment is under investigation. Past derailments have been caused by debris on the tracks.

No injuries have been reported.
