The TTC says it has fired another three employees who were involved in a multi-million-dollar benefits scam, bringing the total number of dismissals related to the scheme to eight.

Police allege the owner of Healthy Fit, a Wilson Heights-based orthotics retailer, convinced a number of TTC workers to claim the cost of orthotic devices that were never actually purchased and then split the insurance money with them.

After getting a tip on its whistleblower line alerting it to the scam over the summmer, the TTC launched an internal investigation and began the process of interviewing all employees who had made claims for orthotics provided by Healthy Fit.

That eventually led to a TTC supervisor being dismissed in October and then three other employees being dismissed in November.

It is not known what jobs the latest TTC employees to be dismissed for their alleged role in the scam held.

“The TTC said last fall that it anticipates more employees will face dismissal,” the TTC said in a news release issued Friday morning. “To ensure transparency and openness of this serious matter, the TTC will continue to publicly state when employee dismissals or other significant developments occur.”

Police did file charges against the owner of Healthy Fit and two others, however to date no TTC employee has been charged in connection with the scam.

The TTC, however, did say in its press release that there is a “continuing criminal investigation by the Toronto Police Service.”

The scam brought in more than $4 million, according to police.
