The first of Toronto's 234 new subway cars were revealed on Thursday morning at Downsview station.

The revamped subway cars were supposed to arrive earlier this year, but the delivery has been delayed due to a glitch with a supplier.

The new cars are expected to accommodate 10 per cent more riders and have an open-floor concept, allowing riders to walk down the entire length of the six-car train.

The first cars will start running early next year on the Yonge line. The $710-million cost for the project was shared by all three levels of government.

Bombardier is making the cars at its Thunder Bay plant.
