Tuesday's Tamil protest where "tens of thousands" of supporters were going to form a human chain throughout the downtown core has been postponed, organizers say.

The protest spokesperson Siva Vimal told CP24 that the protest has been postponed due to International Cooperation Minister Bev Oda's presence in Sri Lanka.

"I think the community is waiting to evaluate our government's action with response before the protest takes place," he says.

The demonstration - similar to one back in March - would have started at Union Station and stretched north along Yonge St., west across Bloor St. and then back down University Ave. to Union Station - depending on how many protesters made it out.

Organizers said they would stick to the sidewalks and wouldn't be blocking any roads.

Last week, thousands of Tamil protesters camped outside the U.S. Consulate on University Ave. closing the road to traffic. The demonstrators were moved off the street by police after four days.
