TORONTO - It seems Bono found time for some musical theatre during his recent visit to Toronto.

Mirvish Productions says the U2 frontman attended a rehearsal for the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical "The Boys in the Photograph."

The musical, set to begin performances in Toronto this week, tells the story of a group of soccer players growing up in Belfast during beginning of the Irish Troubles.

Mirvish says the cast performed a selection of scenes for Bono, who was in town with U2 last week to perform two shows at the Rogers Centre.

Afterwards, Bono met with writer/director Ben Elton.

Elton called Bono "incredible," adding the singer even offered the cast some tips on Irish phrasing.

Bono and bandmate the Edge have recently been dabbling in musical theatre themselves, writing music and lyrics for a Spider-Man musical set to debut on Broadway next year.

"As song writers new to the theatre, we have a lot to learn from Andrew Lloyd Webber," Bono said in a release issued by Mirvish.

"Ben Elton is so sharp -- I'm interested in anything he does. This is a Canadian company telling an Irish tale by British writers on a theme that unites the whole world. Stories like this need to be told and told in the popular theatre."
