Vaughan city council is ready to pursue election finance charges related to Mayor Linda Jackson.
Councillors have ratified a decision to have an independent prosecutor seek charges against Jackson's husband, Mario Campese, who managed her 2006 electoral campaign.
Prosecutor Timothy J. Wilkin was hired last year after a court-ordered audit found that Jackson had overspent her election limit.
Penalties for overspending can go as high as $5,000 per offence.
