Keep an eye one your mailbox – the city is paying back motorists who paid their vehicle registration fee in advance.

Those motorists are receiving a refund after city council scrapped the vehicle registration tax, effective Jan. 1.

The city says the first cheques will be mailed out Friday.

Scrapping the $60 tax was one of Mayor Rob Ford's election campaign promises. The tax was introduced when former mayor David Miller was in office.

Ford is scheduled to drop the first batch of refund cheques into the mail at city hall Friday afternoon.
