Memories

This is the grave of Harold Sobel located in Damwoude, the Netherlands. I visited his grave in November 2010 to take pictures for his elderly sister in North York.

Harold was a gunner on a Stirling bomber shot down by a German Night Hunter the night of April30/May 1 at 2:45am. Residents in the dutch village ignored German orders and burried six of the seven crew members in the local cemetary.

Harold was 20 years old. He hailed from Toronto- one of the "boys of Major Street"

My Dad (in Holland) was Harold's age in 1943 and he felt that the visit to the grave "is the least we can do to thank Canadians for their sacrifices to free the people of Holland".
