The first long weekend of the summer season may be on the horizon, but the GTHA is kicking off the work week with some frosty conditions.
Environment Canada has issued a frost advisory for parts of the region, including Hamilton, urging residents to cover up plants overnight Tuesday.
Toronto will see a high of just 13 C on Monday and Tuesday, about five degrees cooler than normal for this time of year.
The overnight low on Monday will plummet to a frigid 2 C.
“There’s a reason horticulturists recommend holding off from putting delicate plants and flowers into the garden in southern Ontario until the Victoria Day long weekend,” CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter said. “Frosty nights can occur even well into May. Such has been the case recently and will again be a risk tonight.”
Coulter noted that there is some good news in the long-range forecast with “warmer days ahead.”
Rain is expected on Wednesday but the temperature will climb to 16 C.
“As we dry out late in the work week, we also warm up. A big pattern change is coming,” Coulter said.
“Temperatures soar into the 20s on the weekend and we’ll soon be able to put away the thicker spring jackets for good.”
Environment Canada is calling for a high of 17 C on Thursday, 19 C on Friday, 20 C on Saturday, and 22 C on Sunday.
