Police and animal control officials have brought a black bear on the loose back to the ground in Aurora after the animal climbed up a tree on Thursday morning.

"Wellington Bear," as he was referred to by neighbours, wandered around a residential neighbourhood near Yonge and Wellington Streets before it climbed up in to a tree at about 7:30 a.m.

After several hours, the animal was tranquilized and began to slowly make its way down the tree. Once Wellington became too woozy, it fell down to a group of firefighters who were prepared to catch the bear.

Officials believe the bear may have made its way to the area from the north side of Lake Simcoe.

Nobody was injured by the bear or during the rescue.
