The woman charged with second degree murder in the death of seven-year-old Katelynn Sampson will remain in police custody.

Donna Irving appeared by video link at the College Park Courts this morning. She was ordered to stay in police custody and return to court at a later date.

Her common-law husband Warren Johnson appeared briefly on Wednesday to set a trial date but was instead ordered to reappear on Aug. 20.

Sampson was laid to rest on Tuesday as hundreds gathered for her funeral at Parkdale Presbyterian Church.

Sampson was found dead in Irving's house after a woman called 911 on Aug. 3, claiming the girl had stopped breathing after choking on food, police say.

How the seven-year-old died is still unknown as autopsy results have not been released.
