MILTON, Ont. - An Ontario woman accused of faking terminal cancer and taking money raised to help her is facing another fraud charge.
Police allege Ashley Kirilow, of Burlington, Ont., pretended to have cancer to raise money she promised to give to charity, but kept the cash for herself.
She was facing three counts of fraud under $5,000, but Halton police Det. Duncan Taylor says she is now also charged with one count of fraud over $5,000.
The 23-year-old was in court today in Milton, Ont., to continue her bail hearing, but it was adjourned to Aug. 19, when she is expected to appear via video.
Kirilow was handcuffed and wearing a green sweatsuit, her short hair in pigtails.
She has been quoted as saying she's sorry about what she did, and that she has been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.
Her parents say they're embarrassed by her actions and they want nothing more to do with her.
Her father says Ashley told him earlier this year that she has never had cancer.
Mike Kirilow says his daughter called him on the weekend begging him to be at her bail hearing, but he told her he wants nothing more to do with her.
No family members appeared to be present in court.
