TORONTO - The scribe who wrangled Mordecai Richler's sprawling novel "Barney's Version" into a successful movie script has been rewarded with a Writers Guild of Canada screenwriting award.

"Barney" writer Michael Konyves was honoured in the movies and miniseries category Monday at the 15th edition of the guild's awards gala.

Chris Sheasgreen won for TV comedy writing for a "Less Than Kind" episode entitled "Coming Home."

Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern were honoured in the TV drama category for the "Flashpoint" instalment "Jumping at Shadows."

Karen Moonah won in the animation category for "The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About Maps," an episode of the kids series "The Cat In The Hat Knows A Lot About That."

Other winners include "Flashpoint" and "Rookie Blue" screenwriter Tassie Cameron, who received the 5th WGC Showrunner Award to honour her "exceptional leadership and creative vision."
