TORONTO - While there's still no quick end in sight to York Region's six-week old transit strike, there are signs the two sides could soon be talking again.

York Region has posted a notice on Facebook saying contractors are willing to resume negotiations with union officials.

The 600 striking employees at Veolia Transportation, Miller Transit and First Canada are represented by Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113.

Union president Bob Kinnear says the union hasn't received an invitation from the contractors to resume talks, but would be willing to do so.

In early November, contractors rejected the union's offer to end the strike and settle the dispute through a neutral arbitration process.

Kinnear says the arbitration offer still stands, but that the strike will continue until there's a settlement or an agreement to arbitrate.

"If we go back to work without a settlement, there will be no incentive for the employers to make a fair and reasonable offer," he said.
