One person is facing a string of charges after the car they were driving slammed into a home in North York early Saturday morning.

The crash happened just after 4:30 a.m. in the area of Finch Avenue and Senlac Road.

Police say on-duty officers spotted the car speeding minutes before the crash took place.

They briefly pursued the vehicle but had to stop the chase for safety reasons, a spokesperson at 32 Division told CP24.com.

Soon after, the car veered off the road and slammed into the home

The driver of the vehicle has been charged with dangerous driving, failure to stop and flight from police while two passengers were questioned by police and released.

The home suffered significant damage.

The occupants of the home told CP24 Reporter Katie Simpson that they were abruptly woken up when they heard an incredibly loud crash. They ran downstairs to find part of the car lodged inside their home.

The couple is insured.

The house is considered a landmark in the neighbourhood. It was once a farmhouse and has been preserved through the years.
