The city will officially release its year-end financial results for 2011 today, and they'll include a larger-than-expected surplus.

The 2011 surplus is reportedly $292 million, which is $138 million more than initially projected.

Mayor Rob Ford sent a thank you email to all staff late Friday, thanking them for their hard work in helping to cutting costs.

Much of the surplus is expected to be spent on buying new streetcars.
