As more people are laid off and struggle to make ends meet, a Toronto restaurant owner is offering loyal customers a bit of a break - a free meal.
Mystic Muffin, a fast-food restaurant at Jarvis and Richmond Streets, is offering free meals to customers who have been laid off from their jobs.
Elias Makhoul, who's owned the shop for nearly 16 years, says he knows who is out of a job because he recognizes the regulars.
"I know every single person by name," he says.
Mystic Muffin has had its relief program in effect for a month.
Makhoul even has a five-point stimulus plan written on a chalk board in the restaurant.
The establishment serves falafel and chicken pitas, salads and pies.
