An elderly woman who was pulled from a fire in Newmarket Monday has died.

The 73-year-old woman was without vital signs when she was rescued from her Stonehaven Avenue apartment but was revived by emergency responders at the scene. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Police said Tuesday morning that the woman died as a result of the fire.

No one else at the scene suffered serious injury.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the blaze but police say they do not believe they are dealing with a criminal case.
