A female motorist has life-threatening injuries following a crash in Scarborough Tuesday night.

It happened in the eastbound collector lanes of Highway 401 near Port Union Road shortly after 9 p.m.

According to OPP Const. Kerry Schmidt, the crash happened after the driver lost control of the vehicle after it was struck by debris.

It was not immediately clear if more than one vehicle was involved.

The driver suffered life-threatening injuries, Schmidt said.

The eastbound collector lanes are currently closed between Port Union and Whites roads, provincial police said in a tweet.

There was no immediate word on when the lanes were expected to reopen.
