If you’re considering a trek to the GTA for some of the long weekend festivities, you may need to find an alternate route.

The Burlington Skyway, a major throughway that sees approximately 75,000 Toronto-bound travellers each day, will now be closed all weekend, according to the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario.

The Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW were shut down at the bridge Thursday afternoon after a dump truck struck scaffolding with its elevated bucket, causing thousands of dollars worth of damage.

If you are determined to get to Toronto from St. Catharines, Hamilton or the Niagara Region, here are your options:

Red Hill Valley Parkway: This is likely your best bet for avoiding hefty amounts of traffic. Take the Red Hill Valley Expressway and continue on to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway. From there, you can hop on the Eastbound 403 and finally to the Toronto-bound QEW.

Drivers can also take Red Hill Valley Parkway to Queenston Road to the Eastbound 403.

Another option is to take the QEW exit at Centennial Parkway to Van Wagners Beach, Beach Boulevard and finally head on to Eastport Drive. FYI: this route includes a lift-bridge which could be slow depending on marine traffic.

There is no word yet as to when the skyway will reopen however the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario says they will provide an update on Monday afternoon.
