A male student suffered life-threatening injuries after being stabbed during a dispute on the Durham College campus in Oshawa Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, an altercation involving two males happened inside a building located on Commencement Drive.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear.

In a tweet sent out at around 4:30 p.m., the school confirmed that both of those involved were students.

The victim, a 22-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The suspect left the area following the altercation. The campus was searched by police, but no arrests were made.

Police do not believe the incident was a random act.

Police are currently searching for a suspect described as brown, five-foot-eight to five-foot-10, with a medium build.

He was last seen wearing dark-coloured pants, a button-up dress shirt, and was carrying a backpack.
