QUEBEC -- One of the accused in a series of alleged break-ins and sexual assaults at a Quebec university student residence is now facing 12 charges.

Thierno-Ourny Barry, 19, first appeared in court Saturday and was arraigned on 11 additional charges Wednesday.

The 12 charges include four counts of breaking and entering with commission of a criminal act -- sexual assault.

He also faces two counts of attempted break-in and six counts of breaking and entering with the intention of committing an offence.

Two men -- both students -- were arrested in connection with the Oct. 15 alleged crimes.

Barry will remain detained until his next court appearance Nov. 4.

The other man was previously released on a promise to appear at a later date.

The university said Saturday the two accused have been expelled from the school.

Quebec City police Capt. Mario Vezina said the accused knew one another.
