A 20-year-old man is in hospital after he was struck by a vehicle while skateboarding in Oshawa late Saturday night.

Durham Regional Police said the young man was riding his skateboard eastbound along King Street near Wilson Road shortly before midnight when he was struck by a red Chevrolet being driven by a 71-year-old man in the same direction.

The young man was rushed to a local hospital and then transferred to a trauma center with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Chevrolet was uninjured.

The road was closed for several hours overnight as police investigated the incident.
