A female security guard was taken to hospital with minor injuries after her vehicle hopped a curb, crashed into a fence and ended up submerged in a Scarborough pond early Thursday morning.

Police say the woman was on patrol in a parking lot off William Kitchen Road near Kennedy Road and Progress Avenue at around 2 a.m. when she hit her gas pedal instead of her brake.

At that point, police say the vehicle crashed into the fence and rolled down a hill and into the pond.

The driver did manage to get out of the vehicle before it was fully submerged, police say.

A driver that was passing by then heard the commotion and came to the woman’s assistance.

The vehicle was submerged in the pond for most of the morning; however members of the Toronto Police Marine Unit were finally able to lift it from the waters using a private crane truck at around 10 a.m.

Police say the driver will not face any charges in connection with the crash.
