Beer will start appearing on a select number of supermarket shelves sometime before Christmas but you may not have to wait that long get booze with your groceries.

Beginning today, the Longo’s-owned Grocery Gateway delivery service will bring wine or spirits to your door, provided you order $45 worth of food before taxes and pay an additional service and handling charge. A total of 160 different wine and spirits available at the LCBO will be eligible for delivery and all pricing will be the same as at LCBO locations

“Introducing LCBO wines and spirits to Grocery Gateway really completes our vision of delivering everything a shopper wants to enjoy a great meal,” Longo’s President and CEO Anthony Longo said in a press release. “This newest offering lets shoppers order Longo’s high quality, fresh foods and have engaging dining experiences, complete with their beverage of choice, all at the click of a button.”

According to Longo’s, customers anywhere in the GTA will be able to order wine or spirits with their groceries online for delivery the next day or up to a week later.

The announcement comes as the provincial government gets ready to table a budget that includes sweeping changes to the way that alcohol is sold, including a plan to allow up to 450 grocery stores to sell beer.

All Grocery Gateway drivers are Smart Serve trained and will request government-issued ID from recipients, according to Longo's.
