Warm weather is greeting the official start of beach season at most of Toronto’s public swimming beaches.

Lifeguards are on duty at the following nine beaches, as of Sunday:

  • Bluffer’s
  • Centre Island
  • Cherry
  • Gibraltar Point
  • Hanlan's Point
  • Kew-Balmy
  • Sunnyside
  • Ward's Island
  • Woodbine

The following beaches open June 14:

  • Marie Curtis Park
  • Rouge

Sunday's high is expected to be 26 C, with mainly sunny skies.

Water quality is tested daily at each of the 11 beaches from June 1 to Labour Day.

If tests show E. coli levels exceed the provincial standards of 100 E. coli per 100 ml of water, Toronto Public Health will post warning signs against swimming at that beach, the city says.

Last week, eight beaches were awarded blue flag status by Environmental Defence for meeting standards for water quality, cleanliness and safety.

Blue flags will be planted at Bluffer’s Park, Centre Island, Cherry, Gibraltar Point, Hanlan’s Point, Kew-Balmy, Ward’s Island and Woodbine beaches.
