Police have charged a 16-year-old New Tecumseth boy with a number of offences in connection with multiple ‘swatting’ calls.

According to police, a number of high-risk calls which have required “a high level of police and emergency service response” have been received by provincial police in Nottawasaga beginning in February.

Details on the specific dates, times and locations of the calls were not immediately provided by police.

York Regional Police would not confirm if the arrest had any connection to a swatting incident that occurred in Richmond Hill early Sunday morning.

On Wednesday, police executed a search warrant at a residence in New Tecumseth in connection with the investigation.

A number of electronic devices were subsequently seized. Police said that the case was ongoing, and further details would be provided as they become available.

A 16-year-old boy was also arrested. He faces four mischief and nuisance-related charges. He cannot be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He has been held for a bail hearing in Barrie.
