Peel Regional Police are looking for a suspect after a Brampton high school student was slashed with a knife on the first day of the new school year Tuesday morning.

The male victim suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident at Cardinal Leger Catholic Secondary School, police spokeswoman Const. Fiona Thivierge told CP24.

Emergency personnel were notified of the knife attack shortly after 11 a.m., just a couple hours after classes resumed after a summer break.

For about 90 minutes, hold and secures were in effect at Cardinal Leger high school, St. Mary School and McHugh Public School as police canine and tactical units scoured the neighbourhood for the suspect, who may have been armed after leaving the high school on foot.

The suspect, who was wearing a school uniform, is believed to be a Cardinal Leger student, Thivierge said.
