Durham Regional Police say two brothers have been arrested and charged after an 18-year-old man was stabbed on the street during a fight in Ajax on Thursday afternoon.

Police say they were called to the intersection of Rossland Road East and Salem Road North at about 4:20 p.m. for a report of five males engaged in a disturbance, with one male seen stabbing another male.

Upon arrival, police found an Ajax man suffering from serious stab wounds. He was rushed to a Toronto hospital trauma centre for treatment and is now in stable condition.

An investigation led officers to a home in Ajax, where two males, brothers aged 17 and 18-years-old, were taken into custody. The 18-year-old suspect cannot be identified as that would identify his younger brother.

Each suspect was charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Both were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
