A former teacher with the Halton District School Board has been arrested in connection with a number of sexual assault allegations.

Halton police said they began an investigation after a number of complaints were made about physical abuse and inappropriate sexual touching.

At the time of the incidents, the suspect was employed as a music teacher at Alexander's Public School in Burlington, police said.

A spokesperson for the Halton District School Board said the teacher worked at the school since 2006 and was assigned home when the board learned about the investigation on Nov. 17.

All the victims are students at Alexander's, police said. Investigators would not say exactly when the incidents occurred.

Police said Dennis Connolly, 58, of Burlington was arrested on Nov. 27 and charged with three counts of sexual assault, three counts of sexual interference and one count of assault in connection with the incident.

Investigators say they believe there could be more victims and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Constable Prescod of the Halton Regional Police Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit at 905-825-4747 ext. 8977 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1 800 222-8477 (TIPS).
