A Canadian soldier has died following an incident at CFB Petawawa on Friday night.

Craftsman Kyle Sinclair, 27 was performing his normal duties when the incident happened shortly before midnight, Lt. Jean François Carpentier told CTV News.

Carpentier would not reveal the nature of the incident, but stressed that it was not a training accident.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper extended his condolences to Sinclair's family, friends and colleagues.

“This incident is another painful reminder of the sacrifice that our brave men and women in uniform face daily in the defence of our nation’s freedoms and liberties, both at home and abroad," Harper said in a written statement. “We will always remember and honour Craftsman Sinclair’s service to Canada.”

The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service is probing the circumstances of the incident.
