City of Toronto officials and police have set up City Hall’s rotunda and part of Nathan Phillips Square for the arrival of Rob Ford’s body on Monday.

The late former mayor will lie in repose at City Hall for Monday and Tuesday to allow residents to pay their respects before he is buried on Wednesday afternoon.

“We expect large crowds will come and pass by and pay their respects to the former mayor,” Insp. Stu Eley said.

He said 10 or 15 people were setting up floral displays, backdrops and other items in the rotunda on Sunday, as well as a steel barricade on Nathan Phillips Square directly in front of the main entrance to City Hall.

“The barricades outside are to create a space for vehicles to come with the former mayor’s body,’ Eley said.

Ford’s body and his family are set to arrive at City Hall between 7:45 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Monday.

The first hour of the rotunda visitation on Monday, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. will be reserved for VIPs, Eley said.

Public visitation will start at 10 a.m. and run until 6 p.m.

On Tuesday, public visitation will start at 7:30 a.m. and run until 9 p.m.

Ford’s funeral service will begin at noon at St. James Cathedral on Wednesday after an outdoor procession from City Hall. His body will be laid to rest after the service privately by his family.

A public memorial will take place at the Toronto Congress Centre on Dixon Road starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
