Toronto police have made an arrest after a 36-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a fail-to-remain collision in Scarborough Sunday afternoon.
The collision happened around 1:30 p.m. at Kingston and Ellesmere roads.
According to police, the motorcycle was travelling east on Kingston Road when it struck the rear of a westbound vehicle as that vehicle was making a left-hand turn. The driver of the motorcycle was knocked into the road, where he was then struck by another vehicle.
The driver of the first vehicle then fled the scene, police said.
The male driver was pronounced dead.
“Currently it is a fail to remain collision,” Const. Clint Stibbe told CP24 at the scene. “We are seeking the driver involved in the collision. We are asking that that person contact police as soon as possible. We are seeking the vehicle as well.”
He said the vehicle is described as a burgundy Pontiac van with damage to its right rear corner.
Stibbe said later Sunday that a 68-year-old driver has been taken into custody in connection with the collision.
Stibbe said police are reviewing surveillance footage from the area to try and determine what happened in greater detail.
Kingston Road has been closed in both directions between Meadowvale and Ellesmere roads as police investigate.
