Police have laid charges against a driver after a vehicle struck a man and a boy who were waiting at a bus shelter in Thornhill Friday night.

The pair was struck as they waited for a bus at Dufferin and Centre streets around 8:20 p.m. on Dec. 26.

The man suffered a broken leg and a possible skull fracture, while the eight-year-old boy was treated and released for minor injuries, York Regional Police said Saturday.

The driver was taken into custody following the collision.

Police said Saturday that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Police said a 45-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Jan. 16, 2015.
