A Brampton man’s lawyer said his client will plead not guilty to an impaired driving charge in a crash that damaged the Burlington Skyway and shut down the Toronto-bound QEW lanes for the entire August long weekend.

The incident happened around 3:30 p.m. on July 31 when a dump truck, with its bucket in the elevated position, struck scaffolding on the Burlington Skyway.

Some minor injuries were reported in the crash and Ontario Provincial Police said at the time that the bridge sustained “significant damage.”

David Locke, a lawyer acting on behalf of the accused Sukhvinder Singh Rai, 34, appeared in a Hamilton courtroom this morning and said his client will plead not guilty.

“He’s very upset right now with this whole unfortunate situation and he’s going to deal with it as best he can,” said Locke.

Rai had his licence suspended for 90 days after the crash. His next court appearance is on Oct. 3.
