A driver has been extricated and taken to hospital after their bus knocked over a hydro pole and ended up wedged underneath an overpass in the city’s west end during the Monday morning rush hour.

The bus was travelling along Weston Road at around 7 a.m. when the driver lost control, struck the pole and collided with the overpass.

Paramedics tell CP24 that there were no passengers aboard the bus at the time of the crash. The driver's injuries are not believed to be serious.

According to police, officers have contacted engineers with the City of Toronto to assess whether or not there is any structural damage to the bridge.

Weston Road is expected to remain closed in both directions at Albion Road for most of the day due to the ongoing cleanup.
