Starting today, 50 new TTC buses are out on transit routes across the city as part of a $95 million investment approved by city council in 2015.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday morning, Mayor John Tory and TTC Chair Josh Colle outlined how the transit investment will improve service on bus routes around Toronto.

“As of today, (24 routes) across the city have new buses on them and increased bus service during peak hour with more to come later in the year,” Tory told reporters Tuesday.

The TTC says the investment will decrease crowding on 24 of the city’s busiest bus routes during peak hours, including the 25 Don Mills, 111 East Mall, and 16 McCowan.

Five routes, according to the city, will get revised schedules to improve service reliability and seven other routes will have additional trips added throughout the week.

“I think it is important to note that thousands of Torontonians use bus service on a daily basis to get to work and to get to school and that’s the investment that was made,” Colle said Tuesday.

“This is still the beginning. We are going to see later in a couple of months, the express buses and those new routes rolled out across the city.”
