The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in after heavy smoke from a fire in an underground garage in Hillcrest Village spread to two adjoining buildings and caused more than $500,000 in damage.

At least one parked car in a garage at the rear of a building St. Clair Avenue West near Bathurst Street caught fire shortly after 1 a.m. The fire was then upgraded to a two-alarm blaze at around 1:20 a.m. before being knocked down a short time later.

According to Captain. David Eckerman, the main issue concerning the fire was the amount of smoke that migrated to two adjoining buildings.

The cause of the blaze has not been determined; however police say an investigation is being conducted.

No injuries were reported.
